Yandex may launch autonomous taxi service in Kazakhstan

MOSCOW, Mar 12 (PRIME) -- Russia’s Yandex is discussing with Kazakhstan the launch of a fully autonomous taxi service, an Internet company spokesperson told PRIME late on Wednesday.

“We are really considering new territories for our self-driving technologies, where, for example, it is possible to launch a fully autonomous taxi service, without an engineer in the car, in certain cities. Kazakhstan is among those we’re in talks with,” the spokesperson said.

Yandex has been designing self-driving cars since January 2017 and tests them now in Russia, Israel, and the U.S. But in Russia, due to the lack of regulation, self-driving cars cannot run without an engineer on board.
